Worship is traditional in style and progressive in thought.

We see ourselves as part of the Reformed Tradition that is “Reformed, ever reforming” by the Word of God addressed to the human situation.  Thus, worship will always be relevant to what is going on in the world and asking the following questions, “Where is God in all of this?  How are to we to read the world of the text and the text of the world to discern the Word of the Lord?”  Through faith and the Holy Spirit, we hear the Word amidst all the words that vie for our attention and allegiance.

Worship also seeks to connect us to the Holy through a pattern of worship that ushers the worshipper into the very presence of God through words and songs, rites and rituals, sights and sounds.  All this happens that we might give of ourselves to a Presence greater than ourselves to become ourselves.  In other words, it is the experience of transcendence that connects us to the sacred dimensions of life which gives our lives meaning and purpose, love and fulfillment, grace and redemption.

Finally, worship is triune in nature revealing the need for authentic community… the very kind of community that exists within the trinity as Lover-Love-Beloved.  We seek to model this love as we love one another as Christ first loved us.  It is our hope that every worshipper will not only experience the Presence of God in worship but also the love of God in community as we gather for worship and leave empowered to serve.

Sunday Morning

The style of worship at the 8:30 a.m. time is less formal and often uses more contemporary music.

The 11:00 a.m. hour is traditional and features the standard components of full Chancel Choir, newly-rebuilt 65 rank pipe organ with en Chamade Trumpet, preaching, bell choirs, youth choirs and of course singing of hymns. These styles are available from September through May.

Beginning May 25 and during the months of June, July, and August there is one Sunday worship service in our sanctuary at 10:00 a.m.

All worship areas are fully air-conditioned and handicap accessible; visitors are warmly welcomed and friends are easily found.

Children's Church

Every Sunday, First Presbyterian offers a children's worship service during the "Gathering Around the Word" time in the regular 11:00 service (approximately 11:15-11:35)  The children go out of the service with our leaders and experience songs, lessons and games regarding the daily theme.  This service is geared towards children age 3 through 12.
