Fellowship & Evangelism - Spring Retreat - May 2010
The 2010 Fellowship Trip, 25 of your brothers and sisters in faith ranging in age from two months to 94 years, headed into the setting sun Friday, May 21. The first stop for our caravan of six vans and trucks was in Wood River at The Nature Conservancy’s Eastern Nebraska Platte River Preserve Native Prairie Nature Trail. That is a long title for a major effort to study our native Nebraskan prairie. Research includes HAND HARVESTING of grass seeds, counting plants in 1 meter X 1 meter plots over acres of land, and planting more than 200 species of grasses to restore the original diversity of this dynamic ecosystem....read the full story by Jody Spalding in the June 2010 issue of First Report.

LECTIO DIVINA meets Wednesday's during the months of October through May, 5:30-6:30 p.m. in Room 208. We gather together to read a few verses of scripture three times, then pray. Join the circle. Join the silence. Join the light. Bring your friends. We look forward to seeing you. Rev. Ken Hipple leads the group.

KNIT 'n' CRO (Prayer Shawl Ministry)
For centuries shawls have been made to provide warmth and comfort to the weaver. The Prayer Shawl Ministry was created by two women from Connecticut as a final project in their study at the Women's Leadership Institute in Hartford, CT. Weaving healing prayers into the fabric of the shawls, has resulted into many new Ministries all over the United States and other countries, that reach out to those in need of comfort.

  • Shawls have been given to those during illness, recovery, and at times of loss or in times of joy.
  • It is our vision to combine the care and love of knitting into a prayerful Ministry that reaches out to those in need of comfort and solace.
  • It is our mission to gather a group of persons to meet weekly in order to knit prayer shawls, to pray for those who receive them, to pray for each other, to have a blessing of the shawls and to determine the distribution process.

Participation in this Ministry is open to the community.

If you are interested, please contact the church office, (402) 477-6037. Please indicate if you will need knitting needles with your kit (size 10½13, or 15, depending on whether you knit tightly or loosely). Click here to read a news article.

PRESBYTERIAN WOMEN CIRCLES
Forgiven and freed by God in Jesus Christ, we commit ourselves: to nurture our faith through prayer and Bible study; to support the mission of the church worldwide; to work for justice and peace; and to build an inclusive, caring community of women that strengthens the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and witnesses to the promise of God's Kingdom.

Century Guild
Century Guild was founded in 1906 and was known as "Westminster Guild" until 1916 when it was given the name "Century Guild.” In 1966 we joined the Women's Association (now Presbyterian Women) and became Circle 1. The name "Century Guild" was chosen as we worked toward 100 members, which we did meet at one time.

SAND DOLLARS
The Sand Dollar Mariners group was organized in September of 1991 and was chartered during a ceremony with members of the Eastridge Commodore Mariners, sponsor of the new group. At the 1998 organizational meeting, the Sand Dollar Mariners decided not to join the National Mariners but rather have the dues go into the group’s fund. They voted to call themselves the First Presbyterian Sand Dollars. The group usually meets the second Friday of each month. Guests are always welcome to visit and share in the fellowship.

Sand Dollars' Mission:
   1. To encourage Christian faith and practice in every home and to help families progress in Christian living.
   2. To become involved in the struggle for social justice.
   3. To interest couples outside the church in uniting with the church.
   4. To provide the opportunity for Christian fellowship.
   5. To develop leadership in the church.
   6. To support and serve the church in its total ministry and mission.

SUPPER CLUB gives First Presbyterian members a chance to come together with other church members in Christian fellowship. Groups meet from October through April, with all groups coming together for social events in September, January and May with a potluck or picnic. Each group schedules its own meeting times and dates, and members take turns hosting the group.

THURSDAY MORNING SEWING GROUP meets weekly on Thursday mornings at 9:00 a.m., deploying their talents on behalf of a variety of people and organizations: sewing quilts for new babies at First Church, full-sized quilts for the People's City Mission and Friendship Home, and lap robes for nursing home residents. Clothing for needy children is an ongoing project of the group. New workers are always welcome to join us.
